Q-on-1 w/Police Officer Lemar Gordon

Missouri police officer, Lemar Gordon, shares his views on the issues that have been ongoing in the United States regarding police brutality.

Duration: 48 minutes.

This Q-on-1 is unlike many of the others that I've done.  Instead of just asking questions, I had a conversation with Lemar and shared my opinions with him.

Although we didn't agree on everything, we did learn from each other throughout the course of the discussion.

We discussed things from the militarization of the police force to Black Lives Matters vs. Blue Lives Matter.

I look to continue having discussions with him in the future to help bridge the gap between the police and citizens.  How can we reduce police brutality and keep the peace in society?

Q-on-1 w/Brother Ali of Grassrootz Books & Juice Bar

Grassrootz is the only black-owned book store in Phoenix.  I talk to the manager about the importance of the business to the community.

Duration: 21 minutes.

Brother Ali manages the Grassrootz Books and Juice Bar in Phoenix, Arizona.  It's a place created out of necessity when you listen to his story.  Not only does Grassrootz offer a physical location in which to edify your knowledge, build networks, as well as enjoy an atmosphere of peace and like-mindedness, but it's also an online haven for books.

During this pandemic, people are unable to get out as much without risking their health, so the option to peruse their collection of books relevant to communities of color is still available at this time.

He and I discuss why black history and culture is more relevant than ever in 2020.  We talk about Blackout Days and the pros and cons of it.  He also talks about a book or two trending in the black community.

Enjoy my Q-on-1 conversation with him on this edition of the Talk 2 Q Radio Show.

Get Woke! Go Broke!

Is cancel culture the appropriate response to race relations?

Listen on your favorite podcasting platform here.

Duration: 77 minutes.

On this show, we're talking about the "get woke, go broke" mentality that has been spreading across the country like wildfire.  This is the mantra for a lot of people who are tired of the unity movements going on across America. Is it fair or foul for them to feel this way? Can you get "BLM fatigue" from the constant talk and signage that is almost everywhere you look in some cities?

And speaking of "fatigue", yet another high profile case yields unsatisfactory results as the three cops who shot up Breonna Taylor's apartment and killed her escape serious charges. I'll ask my Show Legends about their opinions on yet another person of color who dies at the hands of police negligence.

We'll discuss that and more on this live call-in edition of the Talk 2 Q Radio Show! "No experts. Just opinions."

Did Netflix Cross The Line With "Cuties"?

I'm joined by a T2Q Show Legend to discuss a controversial movie currently playing on Netflix.

Listen on your favorite podcasting platform here.

Duration: 35 mins.

Crystal Hickerson rejoins the show to talk about what everyone else has been discussing on social media: "Cuties".  A Netflix movie that tells the story of an 11 year old girl who joins a dance group with her friends.

Sounds great on the surface, but the dance group is more of a "twerk team".  Would most people approve of their 11 year old girl taking twerk classes?  The movie poster alone brought ire across the country as people starting to complain that Netflix was sexualizing pre-teens.  It even got to the point that people were canceling their Netflix accounts (so they say) and #CancelNetflix trended on social media.

But, did they actually watch the movie?  Probably not.  Luckily for us, Crystal did and she breaks down what the movie is actually about and if people should give it a chance or not.  This movie may actually teach some people how to talk to your kids.

Enjoy this latest episode of the Talk 2 Q Radio Show!  "No experts.  Just opinions."

Q-on-1 w/Retired Teach, Scott Hopkins

I have a candid discussion about today's school system with an educator with over 30 years of experience!

Listen on your favorite podcasting platform here.

Duration: 38 mins.

Mr. Scott Hopkins started teaching in the California school system in the early 1970's.  The way schools are run now have evolved quite a bit since then.  And because of that, teaching strategies have evolved as well.

He and I not only discuss how he got started as a 23 year old teacher, but also how things changed over the course of his career.

  • Did students change more or did the teachers do so?
  • We talk about the stress that teachers face daily from uncooperative parents and non-supportive administrators.
  • I also inquire about how he thinks the COVID-19 situation is being handled.

It's a great conversation with someone, who is retired, that can give his unfiltered opinions without any worries of backlash from the school system.  You'll truly understand why teaching is important and why teaching is rewarding.

Skip Bayless & Dak Prescott's Depression

Brandy J. Flynn rejoins the show to discuss the recent commentary of the controversial FOX Sports commentator, Skip Bayless.

Listen on your favorite podcasting platform here.

Duration: 12 mins.

Normally, it's a Skip Bayless tweet that upsets folks, but this time it was live and on the air on FOX Sports.  Dak Prescott, quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys, recently revealed that he was depressed over his brother's suicide back in April.  A lot of people don't know what depression looks like.  Was Skip out of line when he questioned Dak Prescott's mental toughness because he chose to express himself publicly?

Brandy is a mental health specialist as well as a mental health analyst in sports.  She was the first person who came to my mind when I wanted to discuss this topic.  So, I'm bringing to you professional's point of view on whether it was fair or foul for Skip to belittle Dak as the leader of his team because Dak showed vulerability.

Season 9 Premier of #T2Q

T2Q starts its 9th season with current event topics and more!

Listen on your favorite podcasting platform here!

Duration: 78 mins.

We discuss quite a few things on this live-call in show starting with controversy during a virtual learning class. Should a teacher be restricted from having a #BLM poster on camera in her virtual classroom?

(21:41 mark) Also, we've heard of a WAP, but have you heard of a MAP? MAP is an acronym for "Minor Attracted Person" and they are trying to get established as a sexual orientation. By making it a sexual orientation, people will be able to classify the act as natural.  How do you feel about this?

(44:52 mark) People come up with extravagant ideas for gender reveal party these days.  Are gender reveal parties tacky?  Is it doing too much on top of having a baby shower?  How do you feel about them?

These things and more on the Talk 2 Q Radio Show! "No experts. Just opinions."

Q-on-1 w/Podcaster, Sofija Sion

I have a chat with world traveler and podcaster, Miss Sofija Sion!  We discuss her opinions on mental health, the dating world (literally), and more!

Duration: 20 mins.

When I get the opportunity, I love to jump over "the pond" and invite someone on from overseas.  It allows me to get a perspective on things outside of the United States.  Contrary to what many Americans believe, people in Europe have some of the same life struggles to deal with on a daily basis.

Sofija gives her two cents on why mental health is important to maintain.  What do people mean exactly when they say that they have "anxieties"?  I also ask her the difference in men that she's met from the many places she's traveled.  Are the men in Greece more shy than the men in the United States?  Sofija spills the tea on that question.  We also talk about the difficulties people experience with trying to move on from a stagnant relationship.

It's an insightful and fun discussion with Sofija!  Check out her podcast at Soph Rants!
