Q-on-1 w/Author, Complex Angel

What is "domestic abuse"?  My guest gives us first-hand knowledge of her experience with it.

Listen on your favorite podcasting platform here.

Duration: 21 mins.

*excuse the disjointed audio.  I had technical difficulties while recording.

I'm joined by Natasha, better known as Complex Angel.  She's the author of the book No Apologies and she the host of a podcast called Self-Love Is My Rehab.  She talks with me about how she moved to another state with a man who consistently abused her physically, verbally, and emotionally.  It's a painful discussion for most people to have, but the strength that she excuded in the interview doesn't reflect hurt at all.  Nor did it reflect fear.  She was willing to answer all of my questions, such as:

  • What were some of the things he did to physically abuse her?
  • Was there something that she saw during her childhood that made her think abuse was normal in relationships?
  • How do you break the generational curse of domestic violence?
Domestic abuse statistics are staggering and I didn't want to bring them up.  Despite how obvious it may seem to those on the outside looking in, a lot of people don't know domestic abuse signs when they see them.  Hopefully, this podcast can help.

The domestic abuse hotline is: (800) 799-7233.

Why Do We Need A Blackout Day?

I think that it's sad that we need to have a day to remind us the importance of patronizing black-owned businesses.

Listen on your favorite podcasting platform here.

Duration: 4 mins.

There are many guidelines on what is/isn't to be done on a Blackout Day, but one of them is to keep our dollars in our community.  Although I think that's an important thing to ask, I hate that it has to be asked in the first place.

Why do black people not support their own?  As many of us that have the entrepreneur spirit, it's very difficult to get traction within our own community from people who look like us.  Chinatown seems to thrive.  Little Italy seems to thrive.  There should be a black community that attracts tourists in most major cities across the countries.  A community that not only thrives from outside dollars, but is sustained by local dollars.

It doesn't take long for me to get to my point in most of my soap box rants and this episode is no different.  I hope that you enjoy it and receive something from it.  If you disagree then please use the comments below to offer some feedback.

Q-on-1 w/Captain Yoshua of IUIC

I was contacted by a member of the Israel United in Christ group to have someone appear on the show and I agreed to do the show without hesitation.

Listen on your favorite podcasting platform here.

Duration: 35 minutes.

This group was founded in 2003 with the intent of uniting people of color (blacks, Hispanics, indigenous Americans, etc.), but whenever there is call for unity, there will also controversy.

My guest, Captain Yoshua, explains how he became a part of this group and how they are trying to eradicate the problems found in communities of color.  He spoke, uninterrupted by me, and gave his Bible-based interpretation on not only where we went wrong as a people, but how we can correct it.

It's a very riveting interview and it gave me an opportunity to ask questions about an organization that I'd never heard of prior to them reaching out.

For my white listeners, you are going to hear some things that you will not agree with at all.  You will be offended.  However, the purpose of this show is to allow you to hear things from the perspective of others.  We cannot coexists in this world without understanding who's in it.  There are elements of this podcast that can enlighten a lot of people to the innermost thoughts of people around them.

You can learn more about the IUIC at their website here.

What Men Think, Vol. 2: The 6 Components of Manhood

This podcast series is designed to allow men to have a opinionated platform unchallenged by the ladies. I'm joined by two insightful guys who discuss what it takes to earn the title of a "man".

What does it take for one to call himself "a man"?  Although some think that it's based on birth certificate, there's a lot more that has to be done to lay claim to that moniker.  There are six components to being a man: protect, provide, cultivate, teach, be a visionary, and to lead.

I'm joined by Yahnathan Immauel of the Right To Real Love Podcast and JeVaughn Martin of JeVaughn Show FB series.  They will tell you why each and every last one is important and essential to manhood.

Ladies, this podcast will teach you what you should be paying attention to when deciding if a man is a long-term prospect for you or not.  Go get your guy, your son, your brother, or whomever and make them listen to this as well.

Guys, once you get to the end of this podcast series, hit replay and listen again.  You'll be better for it.  It takes a man to build a man and I have two men dropping verbal gems for you on this podcast.

This volume is so good that I should be charging you all to listen!  What is "being a man"?  Listen and find out!

The WMT series will continue in the future on different topics. I always encourage the guys to speak freely and get everything they want to say out on these podcasts.

Q-on-3 w/The Good Wives of True Crime

Question: What do you get when you come across a group of ladies who are passionate about true crime stories?

Answer: The Good Wives Guide to True Crime.

Listen on your favorite podcasting platform here.

Duration: 46 mins.

A lot of people ask: what is a true crime podcast?

A true crime podcast is a nonfiction podcast in which the host(s) examines an actual crime and details the actions of real people.  It's very popular on Apple Podcasts.

So many ladies around the world have a true crime obsession and I just had to know why.  I was joined by 3/4 of The Good Wives (Fancy, Colleen, and Tori) to talk about how their podcast started and how they decide which case to dive into each time.  From the Michelle Carter texts to Gypsy Rose's boyfriend, they cover it all.  They have even discussed a case close to my neck of the woods involving the disappearance of Natalee Holloway.

It's a very fun discussion and I highly recommend that you check these ladies out at their podcast and at their YouTube channel, Murder By Design.  If you're one of those "Investigation Discovery" types then they are definitely the people to be added to your podcast playlist.

Q-on-1 w/Aamina Danks of Air & Share

I have another guest from across the pond and she joins me to converse about her podcast and current events.

Listen on your favorite podcasting platform here.

Duration: 21 mins.

Aamina Danks is the host and creator of the Air and Share Podcast.  Her podcast is a space to "air and share" on life matters relating to wellness, mental health and spirituality.  And you know that I'm all for a place that allows you to get things off of your chest and decompress!

I speak with her not only about her podcast and her inspiration to start it, but we also talk about world news.  There are a lot of similarities between her home in the United Kingdom and mine in the United States.  We have some of the same social justice concerns and Aamina and I have a candid discussion about.

I will apologize in advance for how I sound on this podcast.  I'm a little on the "robotic side" with my speech.  It was my first episode using a new microphone and it was extremely sensitive!  So, I chose to not move as much as to create background noise and it sounds like I lack emotions.

However, it doesn't negate the interesting discussion!  Enjoy this Q-on-1 podcast edition of the Talk 2 Q Radio Show with Aamina!

Protect Our Black Women

Guys, we have to do a better job of protecting our women.

Listen on your favorite podcasting platform here.

Duration: 7 mins.

And I'm not one of those guys who says things just to get women to like him. So, understand that I'm coming from a real place and not trying to work some angle here.

This message is long overdue and it's aimed towards black men. It's not to say that men from other races don't have improvements to be made, but I'm speaking to what I know. We as black men have to return back to the days where we protected our black women. I'm not saying that every woman is an angel, but, it's time we stop letting a few bad apples spoil the whole bunch.

Stop letting social media bait you into thinking that every black woman is loud, obnoxious, hard to manage, and defiant.  That's not the case.  Those people do exists, but they don't nearly make up the majority of the group.  And for some of those women who may fit that negative stereotype, know that the actions of some black men may have played a role in that.  You can't mistreat a woman and just expect her to sit back and take it.

If you want a woman to let you lead then you'd better give her reasons for doing so or she'll do it herself.
